Le Jet d'Eau

Le Jet d'Eau is the tallest fountain of the world, which is located at the juncture where Lake Geneva meets Rhone River. This 140 meters high fountain is an emblem of Geneva. It was in 1891 that the fountain officially became a tourist site. Le Jet d'Eau is one of the Geneva attractions that is renowned for its beauty and majesty. The fountain provides a breathtaking sight when it is lit-up at night. Le Jet d'Eau in Geneva remains in operation from March to September on all days between 0930 hours to 2315 hours. The fountain remains closed during strong winds or frosty winds.

Le Jet d'Eau at Geneva projects about 500 liters of water in one second. Water is ejected from the fountain at a velocity of 200 kilometers per hour. Tourists can also get a closer view of the fountain from the jetty. However, there is a possibility of getting sprayed for those who intend to come closer to the fountain. A change in the wind direction can also cause the visitors to get drenched.

Le Jet d'Eau of Geneva was constructed as an escape cock, with a capacity to rise 30 meters, for the hydro power generator. Initially, the fountain was installed in another location. However, it was shifted to its present position in order to observe the 6th centenary celebration of the Swiss Confederation, as well as to celebrate the Federal Gymnastic Festival.
