Salzburg Airport

Salzburg Airport is located in North West Austria, 4 kilometers from the city center and just 2 kilometers from Austrian-German border. The airport is also known as W.A. Mozart Airport. The name has been kept in honor of famous Salzburg born composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This is a modern airport with the best of infrastructural facilities. Salzburg Airport in Austria serves as a gateway to a host of ski areas in Austria and also the North West region of the country. Around 75% of the ownership of the airport is with the state of Salzburg and the rest 25% with Salzburg city. The airport receives around two million passengers annually.

One of the main carriers at Salzburg Airport is the budget airline Ryanair. A number of airlines operate around 130 flights to and from this airport daily. These flights have destinations all over Europe. Berlin, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt are some of the major destinations in Germany. Almost all the major cities of UK and Spain are connected by various airlines from this airport.

Salzburg Airport of Austria dates back to early1926. The first flight that flew from this airport was Lufthansa Airlines. Munich was the destination of this maiden flight. In another two decades, the airport underwent major remodeling and infrastructural development. This resulted in longer runways, new control tower and manifold increase in the number of passengers. The first charter flight operated from Salzburg Airport in 1984. In the year 2000, the number of passengers using this airport was more than one million. Ryanair started flights from Salzburg airport to London Gatwick Airport.
