Togo Soccer Team is playing in Group G along with France, Switzerland and South Korea. It's a time to celebrate for the soccer fans of Togo as the country will be playing in the world cup for the first time. The team of Togo is nicknamed the Hawks.
Togo Soccer Team was defeated 1-0 by Equatorial Guinea in 2003. They won the return leg in Lome and entered the group stage of the qualifiers. In Group 1 of Africa Zone, they suffered a defeat in the very first qualifying match against Zambia in the away match on 5 June, 2004. But, fifteen days later, Togo had a 3-1 triumph over the group favorites Senegal, and they never looked back after that. They topped their group with seven wins, two draws and one loss with Senegal second, two points behind them. They had drawn with Senegal in the away match held in Dakar on 18 June, 2005. It was a remarkable achievement for the underdog.
Togo reached the CAF African Cup of Nations finals five times. Strikers Emmanuel Adebayor was born in Nigeria, but have opted to represent Togo. He is the top scorer in the African qualifying matches with 11 goals to his credit.
The Hawks will make the most of their first FIFA World Cup appearance and the fans are hopeful that they will come out with flying colors.
