South Korea Soccer Team is playing in Group G along with France, Switzerland and Togo. South Korea has participated in the World Cup six times in 1954, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002.
In the 2002 FIFA World Cup, South Korea reached the semi-finals, an incredible achievement. In their group match, they defeated the highly fancied Portugal. In the Round of 16, the South Korea Soccer Team played against Italy and claimed an electrifying 2-1 victory from Jung Hwan Ahn's golden goal. Against Spain in the quarter-final, the match was decided by penalty shootouts, which they won. They lost 1-0 to Germany in the semi-final. Eventually South Korea came fourth in the championship and were awarded the 'FIFA Award for the Most Entertaining Team'.

South Korea is undoubtedly the most successful soccer-playing nation in Asia. This time it is South Korea's sixth successive World Cup appearance. In their final qualifying round for Germany 2006, South Korea Soccer Teama opened with a home win over Kuwait in February 2005. Then they lost to Saudi Arabia 2-0 in Saudi Arabia in their second match on 25 March 2005. They defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 in Seoul and drew 1-1 in the away match. A 4-0 home win over Kuwait secured their place in the World Cup finals. South Korea suffered a 1-0 home loss to Saudi Arabia in their final qualifier in August 2005. Following this coach Bonfrere resigned. At the moment Dick Advocaat of Netherlands is the coach of the South Korea Soccer Team.

Ji Sung Park (midfielder), Young Pyo Lee (left-back) and goalkeeper Woon Jae Lee are players there to back the team. Another player to watch is Chu Young Park, who scored twice in his three qualifying appearances. Coach Dick Advocaat knows that this time it's a big challenge and the South Korean fans have a lot of expectations.
