France defeated Spain 3-1 in a knockout stage match on Tuesday in Hanover. With this win France has secured a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals. Spain has been knocked out of the tournament.

David Villa of Spain scored from a penalty spot in the 27th minute. In the 41st minute, the second goal of the match and an equalizing goal was scored by Franck Ribery. Patrick Vieira scored the second goal for France in the 83rd minute. Zinedine Zidane scored the third goal of the match in injury time. Zidane will retire after this World Cup.

From the 41st minute, France seemed to capitalize on the game. France now faces Brazil in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Frankfurt.
