FRANCE DEFEATS PORTUGAL TO EARN SPOT IN WORLD CUP FINAL
France defeated Portugal in the second semi-final at Munich to secure a place in the finals.

a 1-0 semi-final victory. Zinedine Zidane scored the only goal of the match. This will be France's second World Cup final appearance in eight years. For Portugal it was unfortunate that its dreams of appearing in its first ever World Cup could not materialize.

Ricardo Carvalho tripped up Thierry Henry and France got its chance to hit a penalty shot. The only goal of the

match came from this penalty shot in the 33rd minute. The Portugal goalkeeper dived to his right but he failed in stopping the ball. Portugal appealed for a penalty kick but was denied one. The goal is special for Zidane as he'll be retiring after Sunday's final.

Italy has won the World Cup title thrice and this time it will be appearing in its sixth final. Italy won its last World Cup in 1982. This was Zidane's 30th goal in 107 international appearances. The French fans were thrilled with their team's performance. France remained unbeaten in nine games at a stretch. France's win ended Portugal's 19-game unbeaten streak. French fans were delighted by their team's performance. Italy will be playing France in Berlin Olympic Stadium on July 9.
